Dark City. Copyright 1950 by Paramount Pictures; directed by William Dieterle.

I would appreciate hearing Video-Cellar's opinion.

The FAQ at this site states:

For works made from 1950 to 1963, you can check the title at the Library
of Congress Copyright Database for copyright renewals:
http://www.copyright.gov/records/cohm.html . This will list copyright

Performing a basic search for title Dark City with the search limits
set to Motion Pictures yields:

I could find no evidence at amazon.com that this film was released on DVD or VHS.

Technically the film was renewed early (in the 27th calender year, but within the 28th year of the anniversary of publication). However, this won't really affect the validity of the renewal.

Those online renewal listings that you mention only contain Class A (Book) works. Official listings of movie renewals information is not widely available after 1950. The available print resources - Film superlists, etc - are often inaccurate and unreliable.

But with this film I would say that the renewal is valid.

I believe the document you cite lists only books, no movies.

Earlier, you stated:

Dark City was renewed in Nov., 1977.

What is your source?

Where can I verify that?
